Building a Skilled Workforce for Wisconsin’s Broadband Expansion

Broadband Workforce is a critical element to ensure the success of broadband expansion across the state. The telecommunications industry faces the same workforce challenges other industries face in workforce availability and the need for industry specific training. According to an FCC study, broadband deployment in rural areas can create up to 10 jobs per 100 households and increase wages by up to 6%. Partners with the NTCA-The Rural Broadband Association to provide apprenticeship-like training and coursework to help ensure a strong broadband workforce through Digital Badging programs and IT classes.

Northwoods Technical College Broadband Service Technican Apprentice Program

A Registered Apprenticeship program is certified by the state and combines training and instruction with on-the-job training. Currently, Northwood Technical College is the only Registered Apprenticeship in Wisconsin. If you are interested in creating a broadband apprenticeship in your region, you will need to reach out to the provider or providers in your region to discuss their desire to do so. If they are interested, then work with the provider to reach out to the Department of Workforce Development Registered Apprenticeship program to discuss the opportunity.
