Wisconsin Crop Insurance Rebates for Planting Cover Crops
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has partnered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Risk Management Agency (RMA) to establish crop insurance rebates for planting cover crops. Under the program, interested participants may enroll acres planted in cover crops for the fall of 2024, which will be planted to an insurable crop the following growing season. The program has $800,000, or 160,000 acres, of coverage to award on a first-come, first-served basis during the 2024-2025 application period. Eligible applicants will receive a $5 per acre rebate on their summer 2025 crop insurance premium for every acre enrolled and verified in the program. The program is offered for acres of cover crops installed outside of state and federal program incentives (e.g., EQIP, CSP and state cost share). Please visit the Program webpage for information on future application periods.
